My RUSTIC TROUGH

Mixed the cement and plopped it into the hole
I dug in the garden (:)
added some dirt to thicken it alittle more ..
so I could get it to stay up the sides~

Covered it with a plastic bag for slower drying -
leave  bag on the first day only

Finally dry- it takes about 3-4 days
dug it out -cleaned it up

the finished Trough  above..
it must weigh about 40-50 lbs..
I used an 80 lb. bag of cement and made two troughs..
 $5.00 a bag..$2.50 each~
so they are really cheap to make ~!!!
I dragged it onto the lawn
then tugged it onto my shovel blade
 and
dragged it over to my deck area..
will need a MAN to lift it up for me ..
LOL

below are some I made afew years ago..

Love my hens & Chicks..
I posted this in 2010.
this smaller one above was fun too (:)

I  found this 2010 post  on a Pinterest post this morn
and decided to re post it..
a fun project..
messy but I had  fairly good
RUSTIC (:)
results
 with it..
all together I've
 about 5 of them
and cement is cheap (:)
below is a link to another persons class on trough making hers are less rustic (:)LOL

Have a great DAY ~!

  1. Patty your so creative !
I love what you have done!!
One year I found the biggest cabbage you ever saw the leaves were almost 2 feet across. So I mixed cement and poured some in one leaf sitting in a bowl to hold it then I pressed another leaf on top of the cement, weighed it down with flat rocks and voila..... instant bird bath , looked pretty good !
Yes the poor little guy is missing his bits.. hehehe... wonder if Freda will be dissapointed ?

  4. Me again !
Nope I dont have a picture of it,it got chipped a tad over a winter and hubby being the perfectionist threw it out... and of course I never thought to take a picture. But it really was cute,it looked like a great big cement leaf.

  6. I am so glad I'm finally 'back' on line and came to your post today. I love this idea and will hopefully get a chance to use it soon as we are redoing our back yard this summer. What a perfect yard planter. LOVE it! And thanks for the idea.

  7. Fabulous idea, Patty! . . . and may I add, it was ingenious to use the shovel blade to move your planter. I remember once having to use my boy's skateboard to move something heavy in the yard. The shovel would work even better. You definitely know how to work smarter, not harder.

  8. Wow, just saw this on Pinterest. So neat and easy too. I want to make one, but have to find a spot in my yard to dig a hole. :-}
